Are you using a computer on campus or at home? It could possibly be a setting in your computer's control panel. I'd suggest you call the computer help line (402 554-4357), and see if they can guide you through your computer's settings.
Conversly, a colleague suggested saving the article to your hard drive, open Acrobat manually, then try to open the file through Acrobat.
